the simple fact is that if Indian passport was more powerful than the german one, you wouldn't have made this choice. You can live and work in germany without a citizenship, if the choice was based on which nationality you identify with. You made the right choice, but the real reason is the disparity in passport power.

I don't understand if someone needs to put in so much effort to feel welcomed or be friends with german people..better not try that hard. It's not a rocket science to smile back or to have friendly small talk. In a era we live in now we should break all the barriers be it language or culture and should offer empathy and companionship. It does not depend on ethnicity,language,country etc.But in Germany it seems most of the people are somehow trained (its seems from their attitude)to show ignorance and treat others like non-entity.Its pathetic ,for a country like germany who produces great intellectuals down the ages,is failing to show little friendly gesture to others. Meet many people who just saying 'Halo,' like a robot then zipped off and be as cold as possible. It's not about language sorry,its about how you accecpt other people. How do they feel,it matters. It's not about bad or good human being but its like as they are.

I think the general confusion or experience that people can have who come to germany from another country, especially from more southern countries, can be that germans are much more reserved and not so outgoing and also sometimes have a hard time to adapt to a more outgoing situations (like a flash mob for example or somebody asking them to sing or to dance at a party). What people should consider is, that you see this all over the world when you go to the north, so to those areas where there is less light in general through the year and through the day. I can't proof it scientifically but as it is, to me, really obvious, this is the situation in many different countries. Also if you compare germans for instance with finnish people, you will get the impression that the finnish are even much more reserved and talk much less then germans (But what they say often has true value and they can randomly come up to you, say something friendly and the just leave and that's it). When you compare germans with Italians or spanish people it's the other way around. People who historically lived in the northern parts of the world have adapted to an environment with overall much less light and warmth then in india which had impact on the way their emotions are organized and in there general way of doing things and feeling things. It's common for example to get kind of a little depressed during the winter in germany due to the darkness and the cold temperatures. That's one reason people make christmas markets or hang lights in their windows, to get their mood up. Some also use daylight lamps. However, overall, a reserved german can still be a friendly and open-minded german. You just have to consider their origin and what may have shaped the society. It can be as overwhelming for a german to find themselves in a southern environment where people seem to have much more energy and are more outgoing compared to them. But if we get to know eachother we can get to know the positives of both sites. What i especially like about "the german ways", if i can say so, is that due to the fact that they are often a bit more reserved, maybe a little calmer, they are sometimes better able to see the small and quiet details, may it be in everyday life, in a poetry or in a song. Other people can, of course, have the same ability. But it's just a feeling i have.
